EconHealth Insights is a Latin American initiative dedicated to producing and compiling rigorous economic evidence on harm reduction in the region. We aim to contribute to the technical understanding of complex phenomena related to substance use, individual decisions, and the social and regulatory consequences of different alternatives. While we currently focus on nicotine products, we remain open to other topics with similar implications.
We value independent research, informed deliberation, replicability and methodological rigor as ends in themselves — not as instruments subordinated to institutional or normative agendas.
Our approach
- Cost-benefit analysis — comparing several alternatives at once rather than reducing the analysis to binary choices.
- Behavioral economics — how people perceive risk and decide under uncertainty and imperfect information.
- Market logic — supply, demand, regulatory barriers and competition.
- Open science and replicability — we publish processed data and analysis code.

EconHealthInsights is an initiative of Movimiento Pro-Vecino, a Mexico City residents’ organization founded in February 1998 with about 7,000 members.
